Put the steak strips in a bowl, add the cornflour and Chinese five spice powder. Mix until all covered and set aside.
Mix the mirin, soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce and tomato ketchup in a jug with 3 tbsp water and set aside.
In a pan of salted water add the broccoli slices and cook for 5mins. Remove, drain and run under cold water to stop cooking and set aside.
Heat a frying pan until hot, add the oil and beef and fry until golden and crispy. Remove the beef from the pan and drain on kitchen paper.
In the same pan, add the red pepper, chilli, spring onions, garlic cloves and ginger and stir fry for 3-5mins until the peppers soften, but don't let the garlic and ginger burn otherwise it may taste bitter. Pour the sauce over the vegetables and stir for a couple of mins.
Return the beef and broccoli to the frying pan and combine.
If you prefer a bit more sauce, add a bit more water.
Serve immediately with prawn crackers, noodles or rice.
